Our community continues to prepare for Advent - Scott County Times

Fannie Bender who transitioned Saturday at her home.  Memorial services were held Saturday, December 15th at New Friendship Church where Rev. Calvin Smith delivered the memorable eulogy.  Our prayers are with her children, Willie Mae Robinson, Emma Nelson, Miranda Evans, Terry Qualls and Willie Lee Evans.   Holifield Funeral Home was in charge.We are sorry to learn of the death of Mr. Lawrence “L.C.” Denham, husband of Mrs. Jean Lovelady Denham, and son of the late Otha and Ethel Denham.  He transitioned Friday, December 14th  at their Indiana home.   Memorial arrangements are incomplete.Our prayers are with the family of Mr. Jacob Moffett who transitioned December 8th in Joliet, IL and was memorialized Saturday, December 15th in Joliet. Please remember his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Charlene Moffett, and his Forest siblings, Mesdames Louise Lamb and Vennie Burkes.A beautiful homegoing was held Monday, December 10th for Mrs. Jether Lee Walker Brown, educator and widow of Attorney R. Jess Brown. She was a supporter of the Slaughter Library and donor of Legacy. Former Hawkins High School choral director Dr. Bobbye Cooper was the musician and his wife, Dr. Della Larkin Cooper, were in attendance and send their best regards. Please keep her family in your prayers.Mrs. Vernia H. Cobbs transitioned November 30th in Atlanta and was memorialized Wednesday, December 12th at Anderson U. M. Church with Rev. Joe Mapp presiding and delivering words of comfort and victory.  Our prayers are with her family especially her husband Elbert Cobbs, and children Sharon Bailey, Sandra Mateen and Gayle Cobbs.Please continue to remember our readers who are facing health challenges, especially Ms. Shirley Harper who is in critical condition at Baptist Hospital.Happy birthday wishes to James Arthur Emmanuel Burwell, III who started his celebrations for his 8th birthday a week earlier.  He and friends celebrated at Party Time in Clinton on Saturday and at ...

Willie Young - Cleveland County Herald

Born June 5, 1935, in Rye, AR, he was a son of the late James Samuel “Jim” Young and Willie Hazel Ashcraft Young.Willie Jordan was a retired television repairman, a poultry grower, and a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church.Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Melanie Ann Young; six brothers, Floyd Dale Young, Henry Eugene Young, James Owen Young, Clay Maxwell Young, Aubrey Young and J. Murray Young; and two sisters, Katie Sue Reep and Mary Elizabeth Adams.Survivors include his wife Martha Ross Young, whom he married August 9, 1957; two sons, Terry Young and spouse Vanessa of Rye, and Anthony Young and spouse Tammy of Cunningham, Tennessee; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.Funeral service was Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Frazer’s Chapel in Warren with Rev. Jerry Carter and Rev. Charles Woolley officiating. Linda Barrett was organist and soloist was Heather Baker.
